SoundPath by Muhal Richard Abrams

I was so grateful to be a part of performing and recording SoundPath by Muhal Richard Abrams, who passed just one year ago at the age of 87. Muhal’s generosity, creative vision and music had such a deep and broad impact on the field and on so many individuals, myself included. This project for the October Revolution Festival in Philadelphia was organized by Marty Ehrlich (who conducted the band) and Bobby Zankel, and included a performance/recording of a 2012 work Muhal composed for large ensemble. The band was full of amazing players, and I enjoyed sitting in a trombone section with some of my low brass heroes Steve Swell, Jose Davila and Alfred Patterson.
