Neofonía Festival and Cauces Sónicos

Congrats to everyone involved with the Neofonía new music festival at UABC in Ensenada, MX! It was fantastic to be there again for a residency with the Cauces Sónicos ensemble, as we prepared the music we’ll be performing on Oct. 24 at UC Irvine. Cauces is a multi-layered, two-year project that UCSD Prof. Wilfrido Terrazas and I co-direct, in collaboration with many creative musicians and students. One of its goals is extending institutional partnerships across the borderlands region, which this week included supporting doctoral music students from UCSD and UCI to travel to Ensenada to give workshops and concerts within this year’s Neofonía festival. In November, some grads from both departments will also travel to Ensenada to participate in the Semana Internacional de la Improvisación festival (SIDIMPRO).

I’m so grateful to Wilfrido as well as to Teresa Díaz de Cossio, who does a phenomenal job leading this festival. It’s also been great to collaborate with Prof. Álvaro Díaz Rodríguez and all the inspiring music students at UABC, as well as the musicians in our ensemble.
