I’m thrilled to be a member of the Mark Dresser Quintet, which recently released a new album called Nourishments on Clean Feed Records. Mark’s music is always profoundly inspiring for me, so it’s been a privilege and pleasure to collaborate with him closely in this band and many other projects during the past decade. The quintet also includes alto saxophonist Rudresh Mahanthappa, hyperpianist Denman Maroney, and drummers Tom Rainey and Michael Sarin. Nourishments contains all original compositions by Mark, which we spent many years developing and performing in live concerts, including not only his quintets on both coasts but also many telematic projects we’ve produced together. I’m also looking forward to several quintet concerts we’re doing this fall, including two on the east coast (Cornelia St. Cafe and Firehouse 12) with the NY band, and three in Southern California with a different but equally exciting lineup of saxophonist Ben Schacter, pianist Joshua White and drumer Kjell Nordeson.
