Pancho Rabbit and the Coyote

“Pancho Rabbit and the Coyote” is a new opera by Anthony Davis, with librettist Allan Havis, which we preimiered recently in both San Diego (Chula Vista), CA and Tijuana, MX. I only play a small role as a trombonist/improviser but it’s always a joy for me to play Anthony’s music and operas, as I’ve written about here before. Participating in “Pancho” is especially meaningful for me right now, because it’s a bilingual work about migration and the US-MX borderlands. In these difficult times, it’s such a gift to see a creative project like this come to life through a beautiful process of creative collaboration among the composers/directors, the cast, the production team and the orchestra.
